Independence Fest

Celebrate Independence Day in Walhalla! Join your community on the Green at the corner of Main and N. Catherine Street for an evening of live music, local vendors, delicious food trucks, and a spectacular fireworks display to cap off the night.

📍 Location: The Green at Main Street & N. Catherine Street (Beside Arby’s), Walhalla, SC. (Note: Main Street will remain open to regular traffic. Please see the city map for specific side-street closures related to the fireworks launch area).

🎶 Schedule of Events:

  • 6:00 PM: Event kicks off with live music by Jake Crutchfield
  • 7:30 PM: Live music by Rut Spence
  • 9:30 PM: Fireworks show begins!
  • 10:00 PM: Fireworks show ends & event concludes

🐶 Pet Policy: Dogs are welcome at the event but must be kept on a leash at all times. Because there will be a loud fireworks display at 9:30 PM, please leave your pets at home if they are frightened by loud noises or fireworks.

🛑 FOR REGISTERED VENDORS:

  • Setup Time: 4:30 PM. Please enter from N. Catherine Street.
  • Placement: Food vendors and food trucks will set up along the Arby’s side. Non-food vendors will set up along the N. Catherine Street side (refer to your vendor diagram).
  • Breakdown: The event ends at 10:00 PM. All vendors must be completely packed up and departed by 11:00 PM.

Applying for a Special Event Permit

Any outside organization hosting a public event in Walhalla needs a Special Event Permit before the event can be approved. Here’s what to know before you apply.

⏱ Submit at least 60 days before your event

Applications received fewer than 60 days out may not be processed in time. Plan accordingly.

What you’ll need

  1. Completed Special Event Permit Application
  2. Non-refundable $100 application fee
  3. Proof of $1,000,000 liability insurance naming the City of Walhalla as co-insured
  4. All vendors (including entertainers) must hold a current Walhalla business license
  5. Food vendors must additionally register for and collect the city’s 2% hospitality tax

City spaces available for permitted events

  • City Green — N Catherine Street & Main Street (next to Arby’s)
  • Brown Square — Main Street & College Street
  • City facilities (Depot, Old St. John’s, Recreation Facilities) — these also require a separate RecDesk reservation

Water Service Changes

Water service must be started, stopped, or transferred in person at City Hall. Walk-ins welcome as no appointment is needed.

Starting service

Bring the following to the office:

  • Valid government-issued photo ID
  • Renters: your signed lease agreement or a completed New Tenant Form (available at the office)
  • Businesses: also bring proof of passing Fire Marshal inspection

Bring a valid photo ID. If you’re a renter, the property owner may also need to be notified — confirm with the office if unsure.

Apply for a Utility Tap

New water and sewer tap applications must be submitted in person and require sign-off from both the City and OJRSA before a tap can be approved.

How to apply

  1. Download and complete both forms below
  2. Bring completed forms to the Water Department at 206 N Church Street
  3. Contact OJRSA separately to confirm capacity at your address as  the City cannot approve the tap until OJRSA signs off
  4. Allow additional processing time for OJRSA review
